The company has experienced rapid growth and has become one of the best places to work in Colombia.
Only thirteen years in the market have been enough for FYCO to experience dizzying growth. This company, dedicated to supplying technological solutions for large broadband and mobile operators, was established in 2009 in the small city of Mérida, Venezuela.
Today, however, its headquarters are in Medellín, it is present in 12 Latin American countries and has four international wineries.
Giants such as ETB, Tigo, Claro and Telefónica, among many others, are clients of the company. What has been the secret?
For Edgar Juárez, CEO and founder of FYCO, the rapid deployment and profitability of its technological solutions have been crucial. However, these “ingredients” are, in fact, consequences of a modern and innovative organizational culture.
A tribe for everyone
The human factor has been decisive. When FYCO settled in Colombia in 2018, it had around 45 employees; today there are 150 people who develop their professional life in the company, which promotes values such as inclusion and diversity.
This is reflected in the important role of women, who make up more than 57% of the team, including management positions. In addition, there are no barriers based on gender, ethnicity, culture or age.
“For many, Fyco is their first job. They come to do internships and stay. However, we value skills and commitment more than age; that is why we also have people with a lot of experience in telecommunications, which has allowed us to build a diverse, agile and flexible team,” says the CEO and founder of Fyco.
A central strategy to unite such a heterogeneous team in a company born in Venezuela, established in Medellín and with presence in 12 countries has been to use the concept of “tribe.”
"At Fyco we are not from a single country, we have a Latin American heart, and we express that in our 'tribe', in which we are all represented by a totem," notes Juárez.
Thus, as a tribute to the indigenous peoples, there is a totem composed of representative animals of Latin America such as: spectacled bear, condors, jaguar and coyote, which symbolize different virtues and group together the different members of the team.
Growing hand in hand with people
The interest in people is reflected in different ways. For example, with Route 09, where FYCO opens a space for its collaborators to propose innovative ideas that can be implemented and rewarded.
They also have an internal social network that allows the entire team to unite and integrate, since they are in different locations, reducing physical distances.
The company is also aware of the importance of investing in the well-being of its employees. In fact, it has a psychologist with whom it holds a collective meeting once a month to strengthen work and human ties.
However, the emphasis on people is not limited to the company's employees. An example of this is the creation of a virtual academy called Fyco Learning, which seeks to train all technicians in the telecommunications sector in Latin America, allowing for a faster and more efficient deployment in the construction of telecommunications infrastructure.
“We do this because we are committed to our region and because we want to contribute to closing the digital divide,” says Juárez.
Strategies like this reflect the strong bond the company has built with Latin America, a region that has opened its doors and given it the opportunity to continue strengthening itself. In fact, FYCO expects growth of close to 25% by 2023, a year in which it will continue to strive to humanize connectivity with the help of a great team.
