About the project
FYCO led the transformation of a telecommunications operator in Ecuador, acting not only as a supplier of materials, but also as an integral manager of a turnkey project. This challenge involved the expansion of this
operator's FTTH infrastructure using GPON technology, with the aim of expanding its national coverage and improving the quality of service to its users.
The relationship between the partner and FYCO had been previously established through a strategic partner with experience in network construction. While the latter provided its expertise in infrastructure deployment, FYCO was in charge of optimizinglogistics, material supply and project management to ensure its success.
The challenge
The operator faced a challenging situation derived from the growing demand for connectivity and the obsolescence of its copper-based infrastructure. The need to expand its coverage to new provinces in the country and then migrate to a high-capacity FTTH network implied overcoming multiple obstacles, including the transition to a new service and strict compliance with deadlines for the construction of Homes Passed (HPs). In addition, the logistics of material distribution, permitting and coordination with various players in the telecommunications ecosystem required efficient and precise management to ensure the success of the deployment and strengthen the operator's competitive position in the Ecuadorian market.

“This success story reaffirms our ability to lead large-scale telecommunications network modernization projects.
Through efficient management, strategic alliances and a focus on operational excellence.”

The strategy
- Skills Development
To ensure the success of the project, FYCO's operational and logistical strengths were identified and enhanced. In addition, new capabilities were developed for the integral management of FTTH projects, which allowed for a more efficient and structured execution of the deployment.
- Strategic Alliances
Agreements were established with key players in Ecuador, which optimized the deployment and facilitated the efficient distribution of materials. Coordination with local suppliers and teams ensured the availability of supplies in each phase of the project, avoiding delays and maximizing productivity.
- Leadership and Collaboration
Roles were clearly defined between FYCO, the partner and the subcontracted companies, which allowed for an orderly execution aligned with project objectives. The implementation of fluid communication among all those involved facilitated decision making and the agile resolution of unforeseen events, ensuring the continuity of operations.
“The project achieved tangible results in record time, consolidating the client's position in the Ecuadorian market.”

Figures
- The project impacts more than 20% of households in Ecuador
- 35,000 HPs is the monthly construction average
- Up to 55,000 HPs have been turned on in just one month with a traditional solution
- More than 60% of Ecuador's provinces are part of the project's scope
Results
- Expansion and Coverage
The operator experienced remarkable growth, expanding its coverage in Ecuador from 11 to 25 cities. As a result, 60% of the country's provinces now have its FTTH network. Construction efficiency was increasing, and the FYCO team achieved results of up to 55,000 HPs in a single month using traditional technology.
- Market Impact
The post-pandemic demand for fixed and mobile Internet presented a key development and growth opportunity for telecommunications companies. Thanks to the success of the project, the partner managed to remain competitive, maintain and scale among the main operators in the country, projecting a sustained growth that benefits millions of people in Ecuador with high quality internet.
- Generation of Opportunities
The execution of the project generated hundreds of direct and indirect jobs in the telecommunications sector. More than 150 workers were incorporated in the engineering and development process of the project and more than 400 subcontracted collaborators for itsconstruction, which accelerated the deployment and strengthened the local telecommunications industry with new job opportunities.
